Left Wing Skins - Section 17
Today, I riveted the bottom inboard left wing skin per the drawings. All went very well, all holes were aligned and maybe 4 or so required a #30 drill to allow insertion of the LP4-3 rivet. I final drilled the outboard bottom wing skin at the location of the tie-down using a Unibit. First time I have used the Unibit, and as advertised got a very clean and nice round and clean 3/8" hole. Continued with the bottom outboard left main skin with no issues. Then attached the bottom center left wing skin section and riveted it in place. Again all went very well. Renee and I then flipped the wing over, placing it right side up. The instructions call for a third person to ensure the overhanging skins do not flop around and potentially crease at the most forward row of rivets. What I did was to use 3 pieces of 3/8" soft nylon rope and pulled the 3 over hanging skins in it a bit so they did not flop around as we flipped the wing over. Worked very well. Then wrapped the bottom skins over the leading edge clecoing the 3 skins in place. Takes a bit of muscle and Renee helped me with the center wing skin section. Pictures of the flipped over wing tomorrow, I am really enjoying this build. Also checked the alignment of the stall warning microswitch. No adjustments were necessary. BTW, had to take Renee and Adam out for dinner as they are reading the posts on this blog. Asked who was reading it a couple of days ago. Went and had had a nice steak at Texas Roadhouse. Heather now wants the same. Renee is going to visit her in Seattle this week and will satisfy the bet. Bears LOST 20-17 today. Sigh!! Enough for today.
