Section 31 - Electrical Wiring

Continued with Section 31 today. Started to install the electrical wiring.

As usual I read all of the posts regarding Section 31 and also did a bit of research. Here are a couple of good links.

Prepared the duct that runs in the center bulkhead but did not install the clamps. More wiring will be added to the duct. Routed the two antenna coaxial cables. The plans have installation steps for the WH-RV12-SL-ANT but not for the WH-RV12-TX-ANT. It is obvious that both must be installed. Routed the phone line cable thru the duct and forward to to instrument panel. Then started the installation of the main wiring harness.

If you have not removed the pedals, this is the time!!

Per Jim Cone's suggestion I attached the terminals on the CPU fans on the bench.

I then prepped the main wiring harness by bundling it with masking tape taking care to bundle the wiring breakouts. I drew a sketch of where each of the individual wires were heading and bundled them together.

I also attached the terminals for the FloScan before installing the main wiring harness. The plans say my FloScan should have a red, black and yellow wire, mine has a red, black and white wire. Had a devil of a time crimping/squeezing the male terminals onto the FloScan wires. By hands were just NOT strong enough, but, got it done. Have a racheting crimper that sets a double crimp but it has little if any mechanical advantage. Had to use a large set of channel lock pliers to squeeze the handles on the crimper!!

Also noticed that the 3 wires that will be used for the DB-9 EFIS update connector did NOT have pins on them. These 3 wires breakout of the harness near the FloScan. Have ordered a crimper for about $30 and some pins from SteinAir.

Time Today - 6 hours including a lot of research
