Continuing with the Fuel System - Went Well, Sort of

Continued with the fuel system. Installed the gascolator. Had to enlarge the hole for the fitting a bit of one side and the bottom. When the original hole was enlarged, the Uni-bit must of wandered a bit. Used a small sanding drum and the dremel tool. Installed the tubing from the Flo-Scan to the gascolator. Took a bit of time playing with the scrap tubing and then bending the tubing supplied by Van's. Loosened the screws holding the Flo-Scan unit to intall the tubing.

Last piece of tubing between the fuel valve and the Flo-Scan. All was going very well. Bent the last section of 3/8" tubing. It was perfect. The bends were perfect, the overall length was perfect. Sitting at the bench, I decided to install the sleeve and cap. Then flared the piece at the bench. Walked over to the plane to install and said, OH My!!! Well, maybe the words were a bit different. This piece has to be first placed thru the bulkhead, and flared while it is thru the bulkhead. Now a charter member of the "Buy Some More Fuel Tubing Club". Need to order a 14" section To complete the 3/8" tubing. Still have to install the fuel return line.

Finished by attaching the bulkhead fitting for the fuel return line. Adam assisted. Took a bit, had to do it from beneath, using a crows foot, universal joint and short ratchet extension. As I mentioned, it would have been easier to attach this fitting prior to installing the bottom skin.
